Peter Blakesley SWAc

Peter is an established professional artist based in Devon, and is a member of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts.

He loves the challenge of painting varied subjects, from landscapes to portraiture and semi abstract pieces.  He considers himself privileged to be surrounded by beautiful natural geography, and the moors and seascapes feature heavily in Peter’s work.  Travelling is also a great source of inspiration, even though the Campervan Studio is somewhat cramped!

His talent is expressed in Watercolours, Acrylics and Oils, and he enjoys how varied these mediums are and deciding which will best reflect what he wants to achieve.  The effect of different brushstrokes and the use of a palette knife is often evident in his paintings, and the looseness of his work translates a mood or feeling.  He relishes the challenge of working for weeks on a large oil/acrylic painting as well as more instant results with smaller watercolours.  

He prides himself in research and personalising his commissions, and many of his buyers are avid followers of his work, and repeat clients. 

Peter is a leading member of the Torbay Guild of Artists and has exhibited across the South West, and has won many accolades in local exhibitions, including “Best Painting in Show”, “Best Innovative Painting in Show”, and being a finalist in the Devon Life Landscape Artist of the Year.

He proudly states that his “claim to fame” is that one of his large landscape paintings replaced a David Hockney painting on the buyers wall.
